Overview:

The Youth Parliament is aimed at students in Secondary 3 and 4. It is a simulation of the workings of the National Assembly that enables them to:

  • Experience the stages of the legislative process.

  • Understand the basics of how parliamentary institutions work.

  • Debate subjects close to their hearts with young people from all over Quebec.

  • Acquire oral and written communication skills.

  • Develop intellectual and civic skills.

  • Increase their interest in civic life.

What stood out about this opportunity that makes it such a unique experience worthy of being part of The Collection?

The Parlement des Jeunes is an unique experience for student either in secondary 3 or 4 in Quebec that love politics. In this simulation we had the chance to each make a least one speech in the Salon Bleu ,and participate in parliamentary committee sessions talking about 3 different law projects wrote by each school participating. I met so many people from all over Quebec with the same passions as me. I also met with different deputy and this, all at the National Assembly of Quebec. We also had the chance to eat at the Parlementaire ,one of the best restaurants in the province.

What is something a youth applying to this program should know?

  1. Just enjoy it , yes you will have to work on your speeches and wake up before 6 am until 11 pm , you will be tired ,but enjoy it.

  2. Bring a suitcase too it’s so life saving because they give you a small bag but I did not liked it.

  3. When you are writing you’re law project do you’re research because if you’re project is going to be discuss at the National Assembly, you need to be able to respond to any questions people will ask you ,because if you can’t explain something someone will start to destroy you and you’re project won’t probably pass. And if you’re project is selected you have an other job that is not listed ,and it’s to convince people, you have to go talk to everyone there and try to convince them. That’s what I did and it worked !

  4. If you want a special role there do a cover letter.

What was your favourite activity/experience in program?

My favorite part of this opportunity was probably just talking to everyone. We were all gather by the same passion even though we had different political view. And when my idea of law project that we wrote about at my school passed !
